“in a blink of an eye, here we are. Starting a fire on the edge of a small forest feels like a such dangerous thing to do… except our objective is for it to burn way out of control.”

Not a real fire, of course, but a fire of the soul…

At the start of the summer we were just living our lives. Now, we have abandoned suburban comfort, turned our lives upside down, and find ourselves living on the edge - the edge of a small college campus close to the heart of a major southeast US city. Armed with nothing but a calling to immerse ourselves in a culture in need, and to impact it, one life at a time, for a distant Kingdom, we stand at the edge…

[At least we think we heard a calling, or was it the rich food we’ve been eating? Anyway, far too late to turn around now.]

So, it’s four of us, a forty-something couple and 2 young boys, trying to create a spark by just living like we’re on fire. Right now, our mission is for one year. If we show some creativity, and stumble across some success, perhaps we’ll get an extended tour. But, what is success? What is our objective? We’re still waiting for the rest of the instructions.

In the meanwhile, we can’t stand still (as another Voxer said). So, we’re dreaming up ways to subvert the worldly agenda of a college campus community.

Until then, we’re just living out loud.

Stoker

There is a fire burning in the heart of the community. A fire of life and longing. But longing for what? The heart seeks what it knows and desires.

What if that fire burned for God? What if the burning longing for the deepest of God’s desires, surpassed all other longings of the community? The heart seeks what it knows. It is up to us to bring God’s fire to the community of unbelievers; to burn with love and compassion for our fellow man in a way that only God could inspire.

Then our collective fire will burn bright, and our fragrence will please the heavens…
